Our Process

The Bidding Process

Contacting Us:

To begin, contact Estate Iron Work to schedule an appointment. You can find a contact form on our contact us page or call our office directly. We will review available bid-appointment slots and arrange a suitable time to meet with you on-site to discuss the details of your project.

Bid Appointment:

Our free on-site bid appointments include a site review, design discussion, and material samples with our owner operator Ben.
If you have pictures of a style that you prefer, bring them with you or email them ahead of time, so we can discuss the approximate cost of that style or incorporate elements from it to provide options suitable for the site.

The Bid:

Following our meeting, a formal bid will be emailed to you.

Acceptance of Bid:

To accept the bid, a 50% deposit is required. This deposit secures your place in our build queue and allows us to purchase the necessary materials for the job. We accept payments via cash, check, credit cards, Zelle, and offer financing options through our banking partners. Call the office to arrange for deposit pickup or payment processing.

The Building Process

Starting the Job

Once the deposit clears, we will order the materials and supplies for your job. Our welders will then start fabricating the parts based on shop drawings.

On-Site Frame Up

We will then arrange a time to frame the shape on-site to ensure it is precisely installed. This is a crucial step as each walkway or staircase has a unique slope, and we aim for your rails to be level and meet the code height requirements. The duration of the on-site framing may vary, which we will discuss when scheduling the framing process. Please note that for curved rails, the process may take a bit longer.

Final Fabrication & Finishing

For final fabrication, we will transport the braced ironwork back to our facility to install pickets or runners if applicable. Additionally, we fully weld and grind all seams of the ironwork unless a punched steel style is selected. Upon completion of the fabrication, your rails will be ready for painting. We offer several options: Powder Coating, which includes sandblasting, baked-on primer and paint; Enamel paint, which also includes primer and paint; as well as Galvanization and patinas. Time required for the paint types varies.

Installation:

It’s time to deliver and install the ironwork at your home. The duration of the installation will depend on the size of the project. Our installation team will review the rail if you are present to ensure satisfaction with the final product and collect the final payment.
